Lifestyle medicine consultations in Oxford at Walton Street Wellness explore the underlying factors that may be affecting your health, including nutrition, sleep, physical activity, stress and metabolic health.
Rather than focusing only on symptoms, this approach aims to identify and address the root causes of health concerns and support sustainable, long-term improvements.
Lifestyle medicine can support patients who wish to improve their health, prevent disease or better manage existing medical conditions.
Lifestyle medicine is an evidence-based medical approach that focuses on preventing, managing and in some cases reversing chronic disease by addressing the underlying lifestyle factors that influence health.
Rather than focusing solely on symptoms, lifestyle medicine aims to identify the biological, behavioural and environmental factors contributing to health concerns. By understanding these drivers, it becomes possible to develop targeted strategies that support long-term improvement in health and wellbeing.
Consultations at Walton Street Wellness are guided by the six pillars of lifestyle medicine, a framework supported by the British Society of Lifestyle Medicine and international medical organisations.
These pillars include:
• Nutrition – supporting metabolic health through balanced, nutrient-dense dietary patterns
• Physical activity – improving strength, mobility and cardiovascular health through appropriate movement
• Sleep and recovery – recognising the essential role of sleep in metabolic, hormonal and mental health
• Stress management – understanding how chronic stress can affect inflammation, hormonal balance and overall wellbeing
• Avoidance of harmful substances – reducing health risks associated with tobacco, excessive alcohol and other harmful exposures
• Social connection – recognising the important role of relationships, purpose and community in long-term health
Lifestyle medicine consultations focus on understanding how these areas interact with your current health, allowing us to develop personalised and realistic strategies for improving wellbeing.
Where appropriate, additional investigations such as blood testing may be recommended to provide further insight into metabolic health, hormone balance or nutritional status.
Your second appointment will be when the treatment is administered. This treatment itself usually takes around 10 to 15 minutes, but we allow 30 minutes for the appointment time.
A follow-up appointment will be scheduled 2 to 3 weeks later. During this appointment, the results will be assessed, and additional treatment may be recommended based on your desired outcomes.

Lifestyle medicine is an evidence-based medical approach that focuses on improving health by addressing the lifestyle factors that influence disease risk and overall wellbeing.
Rather than treating symptoms alone, lifestyle medicine explores areas such as nutrition, sleep, physical activity, stress and metabolic health to better understand the underlying causes of health concerns.
Lifestyle medicine consultations may be helpful for individuals who want to better understand their health and take a more proactive approach to preventing disease or improving wellbeing.
Patients commonly seek support for concerns such as fatigue, weight gain, low energy, poor sleep, metabolic health, hormonal changes or long-term health optimisation.
Your consultation begins with a detailed discussion about your current health, medical history and lifestyle factors.
We will explore areas such as nutrition, sleep, stress, movement, metabolic health and hormone changes. Where appropriate we may recommend blood testing or other health assessments to better understand what may be contributing to your symptoms.
Following the consultation you will receive personalised recommendations designed to support long-term health, prevention and improved wellbeing.
Not always, but blood testing can be helpful in understanding underlying health issues.
Tests may assess areas such as metabolic health, cholesterol levels, blood sugar regulation, thyroid function, nutrient levels or hormone balance. If testing is recommended, we will discuss the most appropriate panel for your individual circumstances.
All blood samples are analysed by accredited UK laboratories.
Many women seek lifestyle medicine support during perimenopause and menopause.
Hormonal changes can affect sleep, energy levels, metabolism, weight distribution and mood. Lifestyle medicine focuses on identifying factors that may be contributing to symptoms and developing strategies that support long-term health.
Where appropriate, medical treatment options may also be discussed.
Fatigue is one of the most common reasons people seek lifestyle medicine support.
Low energy can be influenced by multiple factors including sleep quality, stress, metabolic health, nutrient deficiencies, hormone changes and lifestyle habits.
A structured health assessment can help identify potential causes and guide targeted interventions.
Some people begin to notice improvements in energy, sleep or wellbeing within a few weeks of making targeted changes.
However, sustainable health improvements often take time. Lifestyle medicine focuses on gradual, long-term change rather than quick fixes.
Regular follow-up appointments help monitor progress and adjust recommendations where needed.
No referral is required.
You can book a lifestyle medicine consultation directly if you would like to better understand your health, explore the causes of symptoms such as fatigue or weight gain, or take a more proactive approach to long-term wellbeing.
Where appropriate, we may recommend that you also involve your GP or other healthcare professionals to ensure your care is coordinated.
