Microneedling with Skinpen

Are you looking for a non-invasive and effective treatment to improve the appearance of your skin? Look no further than Microneedling with SkinPen!

This is hands down our (and your!) favourite ever treatments for skin rejuvenation. It suits almost every skin type and is safe for all skin colours.

SkinPen Precision is the world’s leading skin remodelling (microneedling) medical device that creates temporary small microscopic channels in the skin. The treatment is amazing as it activates your own body’s natural skin-healing power to increase collagen and elastin, so your skin returns to a healthier-looking and youthful appearance.

This treatment can help to treat fine lines and wrinkles, enlarged pores, texture of the skin and reduces pore size, helps with acne scarring as well as surgical scars and stretch marks and helps with pigmentation issues.

This simple procedure activates your body’s natural skin-healing power to increase collagen and elastin so your skin returns to a healthier looking and youthful appearance.

Microneedling with Skinpen by Aesthetics Nurse at FaceOxford in Walton Street Wellness

Microneedling is a cosmetic procedure that stimulates the natural healing process of the skin to improve its texture and overall appearance. It involves the use of a specialised device, called the SkinPen, which creates tiny microchannels in the skin with extremely fine needles. These microchannels trigger the production of collagen and elastin, two essential proteins that help to rejuvenate and tighten the skin.

Common areas that can be treated are face, neck, decolletage, surgical scars, hair and stretch marks.

Microneedling is a versatile treatment that can address a wide range of skin concerns, including:

  • Fine lines and wrinkles: It stimulates collagen and elastin production, helping to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, giving you smoother and younger-looking skin.
  • Acne scars: It can help improve the appearance of acne scars by mechanically breaking down scar tissue, remodelling skin through new healthy growth of collagen and elastin and increasing blood flow, which can have a positive impact on red and purple acne scarring.
  • Uneven skin tone and texture: When performed correctly, it can help even out the skin tone and texture, minimising the appearance of pores, rough patches, and pigmentation irregularities. We often team this with a special serum to help you reduce pigmentation production and “mop up” existing pigment.
  • Pores: Enlarged pores can happen for a number of reasons. By microneedling in areas of enlarged pores, we can help reorganisation of old collagen fibres and laying down of new collagen, elastin, and capillaries leading to the effect of skin tightening.
  • Stretch marks: This treatment can be effective in reducing the appearance of stretch marks by stimulating collagen production and improving the overall texture of the skin.

Before the treatment begins, your practitioner will apply a numbing cream to ensure your comfort. This is then removed and your skin is thoroughly cleansed.

Then the SkinPen device will be gently applied to the treatment area, gliding over the skin in a controlled manner.

The duration of the treatment will depend on the size of the area being treated, but typically, a session lasts around 30 minutes. Your appointment is 60-75 minutes to allow us to numb, cleanse you and give your aftercare advice. After the treatment, your skin may appear slightly red or flushed, similar to a mild sunburn, but this typically subsides within a few hours.

To ensure your comfort a mild topical anaesthetic is applied to the skin for a few minutes before the session. You may experience a mild, tolerable sensation during the treatment. Often people find it tickly, but many people tell us it’s quite relaxing. Occasionally, people may feel a little (manageable) discomfort and so we will adjust to keep you more comfortable.

Microneedling is a safe and well-tolerated procedure. Our Clinic Director, Nurse Kat spent a long time looking for a device that is both safe and effective. She has had this device in clinic since 2019 and has treated thousands of people with it since then.

The SkinPen device has an exceptional standard of safety. It is patented, FDA-cleared, and has CE Class IIa and is validated for high performance and safety.

However, there are a few common side effects you might experience, such as temporary redness, mild swelling, and slight sensitivity. These side effects usually subside within a few hours to a few days. You will be given aftercare information and a skincare pack to help your skin recover optimally. You will also be given contact details for after your treatment in case of any questions.

The number of sessions recommended may vary depending on your specific skin concerns and goals. Typically, a series of 3-6 sessions, spaced 4-6 weeks apart, is recommended to achieve optimal results. For acne scarring, we tend to recommend 6 sessions, for skin health and signs of ageing, we generally recommend 3.

We then recommend a single session each year to maintain the results.

Our practitioner will assess your skin during a consultation and provide a personalised treatment plan tailored to your needs.

Microneedling suits most skins, but if you have active acne or rosacea, we would need to treat these first and get them under control before we can perform a microneedling treatment.

Before your treatment, it is important to avoid excessive sun exposure and use a broad-spectrum sunscreen to protect your skin. Please stop any active skincare products, such as retinols, AHA and BHA products at least 24 hours before the session. Do contact us for any specific skincare questions.

Your practitioner on the day will provide you with specific aftercare instructions, which include avoiding certain skincare products or treatments for a few days following the procedure. There is a detailed sheet that you can access here that has pre and post treatment information.

Prices:

This heavily depends on the treatment areas and will be discussed during your consultation so you are fully aware of the costs, but typically starts from around £180 – £280 for upper face treatments.
