Laser hair removal

The Motus AY laser emits a gentle burst of energy that targets the melanin in the hair follicle, destroying it at its root. This means that not only will hair be removed, but it will also be prevented from growing back for an extended period of time and may be permanently removed.

During laser hair removal treatment, a cooling gel is applied to the area being treated to protect the skin and to help the laser penetrate the hair follicles. The laser device is then used to deliver a series of short pulses of light to the skin.

The treatment can be a little uncomfortable, but the cooling gel helps to reduce any pain or discomfort and our device has a special cooling gel. We may apply cool packs to the skin after treatment and we will use a special after care cream on your skin when we finish. This cream can be purchased as a take home product to help soothe and heal the skin after treatment. 

The treatment time varies depending on the size of the area being treated. However, most sessions typically take between 15-45 minutes. If you are treating multiple areas this can take take longer, for example a full body treatment is around 2 hours.

Hair grows in cycles, meaning not all hairs can be treated effectively at the same time. For this reason, laser hair removal is delivered as a course of treatments rather than a single session.

We typically recommend a minimum of 6 sessions for body areas and 8 sessions for facial hair, although this may vary depending on the treatment area, hair type and individual response.

Preparation for laser hair removal includes avoiding sun exposure and self tan for at least two weeks before treatment. You should stop retinoids and acids like AHA’s and BHA’s in your skincare routine for a week before, but we will give you specific instructions during your consultation. Please shave 24 hours before you attend. You may be charged extra, or refused treatment if we have to shave you as this is not in our allocated treatment time. 

After treatment, the treated area may be red and swollen for a few hours. It is important to avoid sun exposure and to apply a soothing lotion to the area. The treated hair will gradually fall out over the next few weeks.

Laser hair removal is a safe and effective procedure when performed by a trained and experienced practitioner. All our practitioners are highly skilled and experienced. However, there are some risks associated with the procedure, including skin irritation, blistering, and changes in skin colour. We provide you with treatment prep information, undertake safe treatments and give aftercare to help you avoid or minimise any complications.

There are a number of factors that influence the cost of laser hair removal, including the technology used, the experience of the practitioner and the level of individualised care provided.
