Wrinkle relaxing treatments use prescription-only medication to temporarily reduce the activity of specific facial muscles that contribute to the formation of expression lines.
Common treatment areas include the frown lines between the eyebrows, forehead lines and crow’s feet around the eyes. In some cases, other areas of the face may also be considered depending on individual anatomy and clinical suitability.
By reducing repeated muscle movement in these areas, the skin may appear smoother over time.
Wrinkle relaxing treatments involve the use of prescription-only medication, which means a medical consultation is required before treatment can take place. During your consultation we will discuss your concerns, treatment goals, medical history and medications, as well as assess the anatomy and movement of your facial muscles to determine whether treatment is clinically appropriate for you.
You will be asked to complete a health questionnaire to support this assessment. If you are considered suitable for treatment, a named patient prescription will be issued by our Independent Nurse Prescriber, Kat Cane, and the medication will then be ordered for your appointment.
Once the prescription has been issued and the medication has arrived, your treatment appointment can be scheduled. The procedure itself usually takes around 10–15 minutes, although we allow approximately 30 minutes for the full appointment time.
Most patients tolerate the treatment well, although individual experiences can vary.
A review appointment is typically offered 2–3 weeks after treatment. During this appointment the results will be assessed and, if appropriate, small adjustments may be recommended depending on your treatment goals.
Wrinkle relaxing treatments are not suitable for everyone. During your consultation we will discuss whether treatment is appropriate for you and what outcomes may realistically be achieved.
As with any medical procedure, potential risks and side effects will be discussed during your consultation so that you can make an informed decision about treatment.
