Dermal fillers for restoring volume or beautification

Dermal fillers are a popular cosmetic treatment that can enhance your appearance in a natural-looking way. Fillers have received a bad reputation over the years and we can probably all think of a celebrity or friend who has had a little too much in our opinion.

This absolutely does not need to be the case and in fact, many people have fillers that you just would never be able to guess! Done correctly and with care and precision, they can be subtle but make a difference.

Common treatment areas are the midface, nose to mouth lines, smoker’s lines and enhancing or volumising the lip area.

The first step to considering if this is a treatment for you is by having a consultation, which you can book online on any of our pages. We carefully assess your facial structure and proportions, and customise the treatment to enhance your individual features. By using the right amount and placement of filler, an injector can create subtle yet noticeable improvements while maintaining your unique facial characteristics.

There is artistry in this kind of work and it’s a privilege to be able to help people feel great in their appearance. Let’s take a look at some of the ways fillers can be used.

Restoring Volume: As we age, our skin naturally loses volume, resulting in a hollow or sunken appearance. Dermal fillers can replenish lost volume, particularly in areas like the cheeks, lips, and under-eye area. By restoring volume, fillers can create a youthful and rejuvenated appearance without looking excessively done.

Smoothing Fine Lines and Wrinkles: Dermal fillers can effectively minimise the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, particularly in areas such as the nasolabial folds (lines around the mouth) and marionette lines (lines that run from the corners of the mouth to the chin). By filling in these lines, dermal fillers can create a smoother and more youthful look.

Enhancing Facial Contours: Dermal fillers can be used strategically to enhance and define certain facial features. For example, fillers can be used to augment the lips, reshape the chin or jawline, or add definition to the cheekbones. These subtle enhancements can improve facial harmony and create a more balanced and attractive appearance.

At FaceOxford, all injectable treatments are undertaken by Kat, who is our Nurse Prescriber. Kat many years and extensive training and experience to be able to undertake this work.

Dermal fillers are not without risk and so Kat will assess you and check your suitability for fillers before you decide if to go ahead with the treatment. To read more about preparation for treatment, side effects and aftercare, please click on the link here (hyperlink).

Dermal fillers, skin health and aesthetics

Using premium brands, a clear sterile gel is injected into the skin. This gel consists of hyaluronic acid, which attracts and holds water, thus volumising, cushioning and hydrating the treated area.

Dermal fillers help to smooth and soften unwanted lines and wrinkles and so can be used to plump and promote a more youthful appearance.

After a thorough consultation and treatment planning, on your treatment day the skin is cleaned and local anaesthetic is applied. The skin may be marked with white pencil to mark out treatment area. Depending on the treatment area, injections of hyaluronic acid may be performed with either a needle or a special micro cannula.

Temporary lumps, minor bruising and redness may occur at the injection sites, but these typically subside within a few minutes. Aftercare instructions will be provided, and you can resume your regular activities.

The injections are performed using a very fine needle, but some minor discomfort is to be expected. To help minimise this, local anaesthetic is used. Kat is highly experienced in dealing with the nerves that are totally normal at this stage and will put you at ease throughout.

Hyaluronic acid naturally occurs in the body and all the products used in clinic are premium quality and come with the highest safety standards. Allergy to these products is very rare, but there are other side effects that can happen. Most of these are mild and disappear within a few days and include swelling, lumps, bruising and redness. Measures to minimise these risks will be discussed during your consultation.

Please see below for pre and post treatment care. You will also be given post treatment information and contact details out of hours support should it be needed.

For a small number of people this treatment may not be the best choice. Dermal filler is contraindicated in pregnancy and breastfeeding, for people taking certain medications and if there is a history of autoimmune conditions.

During your consultation before treatment, please ensure you tell us all your relevant medical history and medications so we can help advise on if this is the best treatment for you.

  • Avoid aspirin, ibuprofen and alcohol for 24 hours before and after.
  • Ensure the treatment area is free of makeup. If we need to remove it for you, this takes time that could be used during your treatment.
  • Please do not book within 14 days of flying abroad or a special social event where bruising would be unacceptable to you.

Specific post treatment advice will be given to you at treatment and emailed, along with contact details for any follow up.

Prices:

This heavily depends on the treatment areas and will be discussed during your consultation so you are fully aware of the costs, but typically starts from around £180 – £280 for upper face treatments.
